    He was born as Anthony Robert McMillan OBE on March 30th, 1950 in Rutherglen, Scotland to his parents Baxter McMillan, a general practitioner and forensic police surgeon, and Jean Ross Howie, a teacher and pianist.

    With his educational background, he attended Belmont House School in Newton Mearns and later attended Glenalmond College in Perthshire.
