No Ghana Card, No Salary – Controller Tells Gov’t Workers
Ghanaian Started the registration of National identity cards in 1973. The project was discontinued three years later due to problems with logistics and a lack of financial support.
In 1987 the national identity card was revisited by establishing committees including a Technical Implementation Committee.
Now the relevant point is that the Controller and Accountant General’s Department has released information that, they will stop paying government workers who didn’t take part in the Ghana Card registration.
So the Department is insisting all government workers to take part in the registration before December 1, 2021.
The Department released a statement that they are going to blend its database to facilitate biometric and unique identification of all workers on the government payroll.
They added that they going to cooperate with the NIA to achieve that and they declared that from December 1, 2021, all government workers without the card will not receive their salary.
