KTU student and girlfriend remanded for flaunting a Gun on social media and peddling narcotics

A Koforidua Technical University (KTU) student and his girlfriend have been detained in police detention on charges of flashing a pistol on social media and trafficking narcotics.

Samuel Oduro Amoah, alias Tattoo Guy, 23, and Sakina Abubakar, 25, a hairdresser, were detained in Monrovia, a suburb of Koforidua.

On November 2, last year, the Eastern Regional Police Command intercepted images and videos on social media showing Samuel Oduro Amoah carrying a firearm in public without authorization.

This, the law enforcement agency said, resulted in widespread anxiety and panic. The Police tracked him down till he was captured in his rented room. Following further scrutiny by the Regional Police Intelligent team, the suspect was identified to be a drugs dealer.

On December 30, the suspects were overcome by a squad of four armed police officers commanded by ASP Martin Bawuah Dokyi who surrounded their house after they resisted arrest for more than an hour.

During the arrest, his girlfriend tried to throw the material in a clear polythene bag out the rear window but backed away when she saw one of the police officers approaching the window.

The police investigated the room and recovered a black MingXing Plastic handgun with registration number P998, as well as a clear polythene bag containing dried plant leaves presumed to be marijuana, two cigarette lighters, and a matchbox.

The search took place in the presence of one of the tenants, who also served as a witness in the case.
The accused were remanded in custody after the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Owusu Ababio Kejeer, requested that the court allow the police to conduct more investigations.
