Jarad Anthony Higgins, better known by his stage name Juice Wrld (pronounced “juice world”; stylized as Juice WRLD), was an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who lived from December 2, 1998, until December 8, 2019.
He is regarded as a key role in the growth and popularity of emo-rap and SoundCloud rap. His stage name comes from the 1992 film Juice, and he says it stands for “taking over the globe.”
Higgins started his career as a solo musician in 2015, and in 2017 he got a recording deal with Grade A Productions and Interscope Records. His 2018 track “Lucid Dreams,” which reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, helped him acquire recognition. It was released with the songs “All Girls Are the Same,” “Lean wit Me,” “Wasted,” and “Armed and Dangerous” from his triple-platinum first studio album Goodbye & Good Riddance (2018), all of which peaked on the Hot 100.
Higgins next joined with Future on the mixtape Wrld on Drugs (2018) before releasing his second album, Death Race for Love, in 2019. It included the platinum singles “Robbery” and “Hear Me Calling” and was Higgins’ first number-one debut on the Billboard 200 in the United States.
On December 8, 2019, Higgins passed away from a drug overdose. Legends Never Die (2020), his first posthumous album, tied for the most successful posthumous debut and the most U.S. top-ten entries from a single album, while the single “Come & Go” (with Marshmello) became Higgins’ second song to reach number two on the Hot 100.
Fighting Demons, his second posthumous album, was released in 2021 in conjunction with the documentary film Juice Wrld: Into the Abyss, and included the US top 20 hit “Already Dead.”
Juice Wrld Grammy’s Award
Is Juice Wrld on the Grammy’s list? What about his album, Goodbye & Good Riddance- does he have a grammy?
As it turns out, he does not. Juice Wrld said “Nah” when asked whether he has won any awards during an interview with XXL Magazine. He was a victor of both the Billboard and iHeartRadio Music Awards.
He has won just two honours to date: the Billboard Music Awards and the iHeartRadio Music Awards. He may not have one yet, but given his accomplishments, it would not be shocking if he were to be nominated and perhaps win one in the near future. One thing is certain: we would have known when he receives an award because social media will explode at that time!
With just two award nominations to his name so far, Juice Wrld did more than the majority of individuals do in their lifetime. The Grammy Awards are an American music ceremony that recognizes the year’s greatest recorded music. Since 1959, when the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences first presented the honours to recognize extraordinary accomplishments on records, cassettes, or movies, they have served as a benchmark for the industry.
What is Grammy?
Grammy is an illustrious honour bestowed upon musicians, singers, songwriters, and producers. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences confers it (NARAS).
The first Grammy Awards ceremony took place on May 15, 1959, at NBC Studios in New York City.
It is an international music competition that honours outstanding achievements in the music industry across all genres, including classical and jazz, as well as comedy and spoken word releases.
Remarkable Works of Juice
Juice Wrld released the album Goodbye & Good Riddance. Collaborations with Lil Uzi Vert and Kanye West are included in the project. His last project, ‘Death Race for Love,’ was well-known and garnered several honours.
He posted on Twitter to promote his record, “I’m losing my mind and enjoying every minute of it… Just in time for the album’s release… “Please don’t speak on my album if you haven’t listened to it.”
Juice Wrld has received five nominations, including one for Best Rap Album. He was nominated for best rap album and best rap artist after his death. However, they did not get the awards.
Moreover, he is known to collaborate with Kanye West on a number of his projects. In his brief life, he worked tirelessly and accomplished a great deal for his fans. Juice’s album ‘Nothing Different’ is also well-known, having been hailed as one of the greatest releases of 2018.
He gained popularity as a result of his ability to create a variety of different songs on his own, and it’s not only his singing but also his rapping that makes people fall in love with his music and can’t get enough of it. He had a long list of things he desired to do in his life. However, before his work is completed, he has already died and earned fame in music.
It’s as though he wanted to accomplish these goals but was unable to do so due to his untimely demise, which leaves people wondering if he received any awards.
Higgins said that his musical inspirations spanned from rock to rap, with the rappers Travis Scott, Chief Keef, Kanye West, and British rock musician Billy Idol serving as his primary influences.
According to Billboard writer Michael Saponara, “If West and his sparse 808s were a tree, it would have sprouted another branch in 2018 thanks to the flowering art demonstrated by fellow Chicagoan Juice WRLD.” Higgins was one of a number of overtly emotional musicians that emerged from the emo rap movement in the aftermath of West’s seminal fourth album, 808s & Heartbreak (2008).
Higgins said during an interview with All Def Music, “I was singing “Street Lights” as though I had anything to lament. Kanye [West] has the ability to travel across time. That nigga went all the way to 2015 and returned with some sauce “‘. Wu-Tang Clan, Quietdrive, Fall Out Boy, Black Sabbath, The Starting Line, The Cranberries, The City Drive, Tupac, Eminem, XXXTentacion, Kid Cudi, and Escape The Fate were other inspirations.
Higgins’ music has been described as “emo” and “rock” influenced, as well as “genre-bending,” with an emphasis on “every shattered heart, every wounded sensation.” He has been classified as a hip hop, trap, emo rap, and SoundCloud rap musician, more precisely. With his preference for short, hook-laden songs, Higgins seemed to be a key character in hip-hop’s present era. In 2018, Spotify declared “emo rap” the fastest rising genre.
Higgins is undoubtedly the most successful performer in the subgenre in terms of mainstream popularity. This was facilitated by his partnership with Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco. Higgins himself saw the emo term as both negative and good, believing that music needed to be a little darker at times to represent his idea that the world is not really bright or joyous.
Higgins said that he penned just “Lucid Dreams” for Goodbye & Good Riddance, with the others being improvised. Rather than writing down his rhymes, Higgins created whole songs in a matter of minutes via impromptu rhyming. He spent most of his composition time freestyling lyrics rather than writing them down. When he did create a song, it generally started with hearing a rhythm and instantly conceiving an idea, but Higgins sometimes found himself alone with an idea for a song and fearful of forgetting it hours later at the studio. As a result, he sometimes took a voice memo or just penned the whole song.
Higgins saw the significance in his status as one of the only modern SoundCloud artists capable of writing soulful ballads and odes while also freestyle rapping over vintage hip hop tunes. Rather than abandoning it, his freestyles place a premium on wordplay and are deeply rooted in the art form’s history. When questioned why freestyles are no longer seen as a rite of passage in hip hop culture, he said, “Simple terms, things are changing. We’re entering a new musical period. I believe that forgetting where shit began is not always a good thing, but shit is changing “‘. Though his songs do not often have highly technical songwriting, sophisticated flows, or tongue-twisting wit, Higgins’ freestyles featured imaginative flows and catchy phrases.
His Personal Life
Higgins had a history of drug addiction dating all the way back to his youth, and he was candid about his experiences. His mother said that he was also battling anxiety and depression in addition to his drug addiction fight. Higgins had agreed weeks before his death to enter drug rehabilitation.
He was residing in Los Angeles at the time of his death with his girlfriend, Ally Lotti. In November 2018, the duo declared their relationship on Instagram.
Juice Wrld’s Death
Higgins was on a private Gulfstream plane travelling from Los Angeles’ Van Nuys Airport to Chicago’s Midway International Airport on December 8, 2019. Law enforcement authorities were awaiting the arrival of the aeroplane after being warned by federal investigators that they feared the plane was carrying firearms and narcotics while on its route.
Law enforcement officials later revealed that they discovered 70 lb (32 kg) of marijuana on the flight and that several members of Higgins’ management team informed them that Higgins had taken “several unknown pills,” including allegedly swallowing multiple Percocet pills to conceal them while police searched the luggage.
Higgins then started convulsing and seizing, prompting the administration of two doses of the emergency medicine Narcan on the fear of an opioid overdose. Higgins was pronounced dead at the adjacent Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The Cook County Medical Examiner declared on January 22, 2020, that Higgins died as a consequence of toxic quantities of oxycodone and codeine in his system. On December 13, 2019, Higgins’ funeral was conducted at the Holy Temple Cathedral Church of God in Christ in Harvey, Illinois. Guests included colleagues Ski Mask the Slump God and Young Thug.
