Gov’t didn’t engage service providers before introducing E-levy on transactions – Sam George
Sam Nartey George who is a Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency has revealed that the government didn’t notify the telecom companies before presenting E-levy on transactions
According to the MP, The government failed to inform the telecommunication companies before making those decisions
During the presentation of the 2022 Budget, the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta declared that a 1.17% levy will be charged on electronic transactions to widen the tax net.
“Let me state for the records that the govt HAS NOT engaged any of the service providers in the telecoms space on how the draconian ‘digital tax’ would be implemented. How do you announce a tax when those to implement it & be affected by it are left in the dark? Clueless bunch,” he said in a tweet.
He added “The NCA and the Ministry of Communications are now inviting Telcos and Service providers in the space to a meeting on Friday to discuss the implementation of a policy announced in the budget? Such a clueless bunch of managers. Post facto thinking.”
