FLASHBACK: Bawumia Reveals Mobile Money Shouldn’t Be Taxed

Ghanaian economist and the current Vice President of Ghana Mahamudu Bawumia disclosed that, mobile money shouldn’t be taxed just one year ago

According to the Vice President, the majority of mobile money users are poor so if the government place tax on it then those people will suffer

Dr. Bawumia was interviewed by Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM, which he reveals that “I don’t think Mobile Money should be taxed because most of the people who use the service are poor people so if you put more taxes on it they will suffer.”

In the new development, during the presentation of the 2022 budget, the NPP’s government placed a 1.17% levy on electronic transactions including mobile money

Ghanaians don’t understand why the NPP government placed the levy on electronic transactions meanwhile they promised one year ago that mobile money shouldn’t be taxed

Some social media users have reacted that, the NPP government has lied to Ghanaians for going back to take what they promised Ghanaians not implement it
