    Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation previously known as Shanduka Foundation is a foundation founded in the year 2004 by the Shanduka Group and its founder, Cyril Ramaphosa. Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation is an independent public benefit organisation whose aim is to improve the quality of living of individuals.

    The foundation’s name was changed in the year 2015. Also, the foundation had partnered with Adopt-a-School Foundation, which includes the Thari Programme, Kagiso Shanduka Trust, Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust and Black Umbrellas to achieve its goal.

    Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET) was initiated by Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation to help qualified South African students for good employment qualifications and opportunities. The education trust program doesn’t only scour for the best academic achievers but also goes in for candidates who are ready to showcase their might to progress under good conditions and with the needed support.

    The foundation will also not only provide financial support but also mentorship, nurturing, and social and psychological connection to beneficiaries. All recipients (beneficiaries) of this will have the chance to heed to intensive vacation work experience programs twice a year.

    This vacation work experience will give them network opportunities and equip them with skill training among other benefits.

    Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust Bursaries

    The Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust known as CRET for short is a program structured by Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation to support deserving South African students from vulnerable homes to continue their education for employment qualification improvement.

    However, it is a non-profit organization that looks forward to improving the lives of recipients and creating opportunities for them through industry growth and accessible educational facilities and environment.

    The CRET bursary is given an operational period of not more than 5 years in the institution commissioned by the Higher Education Authority. Typically, the bursary will cover books, tuition and other educational materials, accommodation and meals and also stipends (living expenses, dependent expenses etc).

    The amount of money allocated to a recipient is not fixed at a certain amount but is discussed before signing the Bursary Agreement. The bursary agreement may be renewed yearly depending on academic results, communication policies, commitment of student and other criteria as listed in the bursary contract.

    After a student has completed the qualification, he or she is not required to work for the foundation. Additionally, the foundation, CRET do not have any obligations to provide any form of employment opportunities to beneficiaries and it does not also obligate them to sort out the money invested into their education.

    CRET Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

    • Unemployed and full-time students between the ages of 16 to 30 who are willing to pursue undergraduate studies at an accredited South African institution
    • To all South African citizens who have valid South African ID number
    • Fully registered and accepted student at an accredited institution
    • Showcase good academic, communication skills, leadership skills, and high social and moral values
    • Strong financial need with proof
    • Applicants who are learners or want to pursue studies in prevalent and scarce skills as seen by the Department of Labour, SETAs and other labour/economic advisors, will be provided with preference
    • Students in any year of study without a higher education qualification and are not applying for postgraduate studies are also eligible to apply for this opportunity
    • Applications for skills development programmes shall be considered only based on the Bursary Selection Committee requirements and decision results by the board
    • Distance education and part-time students in South Africa are also eligible to apply only if they meet all the requirements and eligibility criteria
    • Beneficiaries of bursaries or funding from other sources may also be considered depending on extra needs with proof

    • A certified copy of your grade 11 latest results, if you’re currently in Matric
    • A certified copy of your matric latest results, if you are currently in Matric
    • A certified copy of your Matric certificate, if you’ve completed Matric
    • A certified copy of your full academic record, if you’re currently at a tertiary level
    • Proof of tertiary application or acceptance
    • Parents/guardian’s ID documents
    • Proof of income of parents/guardian
